Comparison school V/S university: my own experience

My school was small, but very demanding with personal presentation and its exams (sometimes I had exams 2 weeks in a row), of UST style, namely, only alternatives, for this reason, they did not do practical home works except for Art and PE. In the first and second year I had approx. 9 subjects: maths, language, EP., chemistry, history, biology, physics and sports workshop that was independent of PE, and the third and fourth year elective classes, I had to choose between scientific and humanistic area and I chose scientific subjects of chemistry, biology and maths because it was less boring for me, and with it had approx. 12 subjects. As my school was small, it hadn´t casino (we had lunch in the classroom or on the patio), computer lab and gym (it was only a court), anyway I still felt pretty comfortable. In the first year were 45 people in the classroom, but not all resisted the demands of school and they retired in second year, since there were 37, with 8 men and  the other was women.

Here in college, I haven´t felt such a drastic change of the passage from school to university and I think that my school helped a lot, also here there is more freedom to do what you want (without harming anyone) and the demand is greater, because this place teach you how to be adult, also recognizing that the university delivers free time for leisure.

ORAL PRESENTATION. TYPES OF LANDSCAPE.

Geography is a multidiscipline that studies the constant interplay between man and nature, and this constant interplay results in different expressions of space. The topic I would like to present on this occasion consists of those spatial expressions according to their conformation, namely, the types of landscapes and simultaneously, a brief overview of each. A definition of landscape is the physical representation of geographic space or put more simply, is what is observed in the territory.

From this, it is possible to identify natural landscapes and landscapes operated by the hand of man; can be the first name:
     a)    Mountain landscapes: rocky hills are formed by the folding of tectonic plates, here rivers are born from the melting and glaciers can be found. For example: Patagonia and around the Cordillera de Los Andes.

b)
Coastal Landscapes: here you can find different types of coast according to their training, such as beaches, cliffs, fiords and among others. They are found throughout Chile.

On the other hand, have operated landscapes. Can be:
a) Cityscape: it have a high population density; however, its dimension is depending on the amount of population that lives in that space its main economic activities are the secondary (industry) and tertiary (services). Ex: Santiago, Antofagasta, etc.

b) Rural landscape: its population is less than 1000 inhabitants, its main economic activity are the primary (agriculture, livestock, fisheries) and identify typical elements of rural landscape, as a plots, farms and fields. Ex: Vicuña, Mostazal, etc.

Why one decided to study geography?

By Natalia Nova R.

Not easy to decide at the age of 17 or 18 years studying race is preferred because isn´t a decision everyone, this is a serious decision that defines the future of the person, a decision that can lead to success or failure depending on the handling of the circumstances that come before us.

In my case I had in mind several races that were preferred, scientific and environmental area, such as Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy, Environmental Engineering, Technical environment, but none of them completely convinced me to choose definitely one of them. So in my tastes, I thought of some things that could benefit them out good and I remembered that was a child, my favorite pastimes were looking at maps and taking a walk around my neighborhood. Researching on the Internet I found the career of geography, race and his name did not look like a traditional career and this detail had caught my attention and above all, I knew I had the elements I like: nature, land and maps; so after that, I signed up quickly.

Geography is a very full career, his general definition is the study of the interrelationship between natural elements and social elements, making the race more interesting, becoming more interesting to know more about the geography for educate  population about the processes that she studies. I confess that at first I wasn´t  convinced about their subjects, but now I'm studying I do not regret having chosen and in fact, was better than I expected.
